Distant Learning - Term 5 update:

To all of our families,

We hope that you have been able to stay well and have had something of a break at this challenging time.  Thank you for the positive feedback that we received around the activities that we provided for the 2 week school holiday. We trust that it was helpful in keeping young people occupied!

As we move into what would have been term 5 at the academy, we are returning to the structure of teachers uploading work for their classes via Show My Homework on a daily basis.  We have, however, responded to feedback and improved this system:

  • Families like the structure that a timetable offers to help keep children in a routine.
  • There was a feeling of too much work being uploaded.  Therefore, we have developed a new timetable (click here for the timetable or it can be found on Show My Homework) with 5 lessons per day rather than 6.
  • Students often found the time expectations too rigid, particularly when wanting to finish work.  Therefore, this timetable doesn't have timings so students can work on lessons for appropriate lengths of time. Alternatively, families can devise their own timings based around other commitments.
  • Families and young people enjoyed the opportunities for wellbeing sessions.  We have, as a result, included this within the timetable.  There is a list of activities to choose from (click here for the wellbeing sessions timetable or again it can be found on Show My Homework) as well as a wellbeing log (linked here and on Show My Homework).  These will be regularly updated, so please ask children to keep an eye on Show My Homework.  Students may like to use this to determine which approaches work best for them.

This timetable is for years 7 - 10 only.  With the announcement from the Department for Education that exams are cancelled this year (and confirmation that students should not be completing any more work) we have created a different approach for year 11.  This will focus upon bridging the gap between pre - 16 education and various pathways at post 16, as well as specific careers advice and wellbeing opportunities.  This work will be uploaded for year 11 only on Show My Homework, and updated on a weekly basis.

We hope that your children find this approach stimulating, challenging and enjoyable.   As ever if you have any questions please contact your child's tutor in the first instance.

Very best wishes and stay safe,

Simon Jones (Assistant Principal).
